“Discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes.” – Marcel Proust

An invitation to connect...

I invite you to connect, pause, become aware of, and discover a new relationship with yourself. You will be encouraged to get to know your body in a more loving and deeper way. And your form of physical movement (whichever that might be) will become a foundation and practice that we will attend to and nourish as a pillar of your psychological wellbeing.

From there, you may discover that your relationship to others, nature, and the world around you may also change. Psychotherapy is also an opportunity to explore the sources of disconnection in your life and find ways to connect with what really matters to you.

As we know, mindfulness, physical activity, and time spent in nature support learning, growth and well-being.  I find that bringing all three into psychotherapy creates a nurturing environment where healing and true and lasting change can take place.

About Discoveries

Image

I am a licensed Clinical Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience, working with adults in both individual psychotherapy and group settings. My clients face a wide range of mental health concerns including (but not limited to) depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and relationship issues. In addition, I bring both my experience in practicing and teaching mindfulness for 20 years and my 30-year career as a martial artist to my work.

I offer an empowering approach to those I serve, and work with adults of all ages, races and ethnicities, gender and affectional identities, abilities, fitness levels, shapes, and sizes. I am very excited to bring a curious and creative approach that supports healing, transformative psychological growth, and well-being.

Some of the mindfulness-based interventions I have offered throughout the years are:

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

An evidence-based program that offers secular, intensive mindfulness training to assist people with stress, anxiety, depression and pain.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy combines the ideas of cognitive therapy with meditative practices and attitudes based on the cultivation of mindfulness.

Mindfulness-Based Resilience Training

MBRT is an evidence-based training that deals with occupational stress and trauma, resourcing participants for more skillful responses to the complexity of both their professional and personal lives.

Path of Freedom

The POF class is an 11-week class based on the Prison Mindfulness Institute's Path of Freedom® curriculum developed by Kate Crisp (lead author) and Fleet Maull.

Building Empowerment And Resilience

The BEAR curriculum is a 10-week curriculum developed over the last 12 years by Dr. Jennifer Keller at Stanford University, and its intention is to empower women with a history of interpersonal trauma and to promote healing and resilience through education, mindfulness, and empowerment self-defense techniques.

Individual Psychotherapy
I bring a mindfulness-based approach to my work with clients, and also draw on concepts/practices from other forms of therapy and theoretical context such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Buddhist Psychology, Art Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. In addition, I also emphasize the importance of moving our bodies as we explore and discover patterns of thought, emotion, and sensations that may interfere with living a vibrant and meaningful life. An initial psychological assessment and treatment planning visit precedes psychotherapy visits.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes, you can schedule a free 30-minute session so that we can determine if we are a good fit.

How can I request a new appointment?

You can request a new appointment here via email, or call at 608-228-1228.

Do you take insurance?

I am able to work as an “out of network” provider for psychotherapy service, and many insurance companies offer reimbursement for “out of network” providers. I encourage you to call your insurance company to determine whether our psychotherapy services are covered. I do not submit insurance, but can provide a “superbill” for you to submit to your insurance company if you choose to seek reimbursement. Payment in full is due at the time of services even if you plan to submit a superbill to your insurance company.

Enough

Enough. These few words are enough.
If not these words, this breath.
If not this breath, this sitting here.

This opening to the life
we have refused
again and again
until now.

Until now.
